About the Brew
About the Brewer
Katie, Tour Guide here at Lakefront, made this British-style ESB. Katie engages tourgoers in the beer-making process with her sassy charm, snappy jokes, and group participation, while leading them through our brewhouse, cellar, and packaging lines. She’s an ace bartender, too, quick to fill up a pint and wipe down a bar top.
When Katie’s not getting a crowd to pantomime fermenting yeast, she’s got her luggage packed for a trip. Usually to somewhere with warmer weather and a golf course, or two. She doesn’t bother with those little half pencils and scorecards, though, driving and chipping just for the pure love of the game.
About the Beer
Katie’s been giving tours at Lakefront for a while. Like, before the iPhone. In that time, several beers have come and gone, but there’s one she misses: our Organic ESB. As a style that emphasizes balance and drinkability, ESB became her go-to for cheersing tourgoers and crowning Bung Queens.
First off, the “Bitter” in Extra Special Bitter is British for “Pale Ale.” Like how “lorry” means “truck.” Malt-and-hop harmony is key, here. This coppery ale shows off herbal and woodsy aromas from UK Fuggle hops, malty flavors of fresh biscuits and light caramel, plus hints of fruity esters from London ale yeast.
